Each year, students across Australia come together for Write a Book in a Day, working as a team to write and illustrate a book in just 12 hours while raising vital funds for childhood cancer research.
Among them are students from St Catherine’s Catholic College in Singleton, showing how schools across the country can come together to make a difference, no matter where they’re from.
Alana Partridge, Pedagogical Mentor and English Teacher at St Catherine’s, says the challenge offered students a unique opportunity to make an impact.
“In 2025 we investigated Write a Book in a Day and were excited about the possibility of winning an author talk. Being in a regional area means visits from authors are more difficult to arrange,” she says.
“The challenge gave us a chance for students to stretch their skills and provided meaningful learning across stages in one activity.”
For St Catherine’s students, Write a Book in a Day is about more than writing a story. It’s a chance to work together, challenge themselves and support a cause that has touched many families in their community.
“Members of our school community have all had their lives affected by cancer. Raising money for research and providing books for children in hospital are ways that students feel empowered to make a difference.”
The day itself is fast-paced, collaborative and full of creativity.
