Write a Book in a Day 2023 – winners announcement!

The 2023 edition of Write a Book in a Day was very simply the biggest competition to date- watch the full Winner Announcement here! 1,939 teams around the country rose to the challenge, writing and illustrating a novel in just 12 hours – and sometimes even less! Read on below to see which creative crew took home the top spots…

However, before we get to that a massive thank you is in order for your incredible fundraising work. Over the past three months, teams like yours have helped raise a whopping $901,045 to support vital kids’ cancer research.

That is an unbelievable achievement, so even if the tour team hasn’t made the top spot for Best Book, I hope you’re incredibly proud to be helping kids survive cancer.

What’s more, your tall tales, silly stories and brilliant books will also be made available to children’s hospitals throughout Australia, bringing a great sense of comfort and a welcome distraction to kids who are facing the hardest time of their lives.

2023 in numbers

With teams entering from across Australia, 2023 was our biggest year ever! In total, there were:

  • 1,939 teams
  • 694 schools and writing groups
  • 14,073 individual writers
  • $901,045 raised for kids’ cancer research

Congratulations to our national winners!
