Why should you fundraise this Write a Book in a Day?

Schools across the nation that enter the Write a Book in a Day competition showcase and challenge their students’ creative skills. While the tournament certainly allows for healthy competition, the altruistic element is much more significant.

Every dollar raised via both entry fees and community donations during Write a Book in a Day help The Kids’ Cancer Project to fund researchers committed to improving survival rates and the lives of kids with cancer.

Childhood cancer research is currently under-funded by state and federal governments, meaning that charitable donations are key to the advancement of research and ensuring that better treatments can be discovered.

Kids that should be in the classroom – but are currently in hospital – directly benefit from fundraising. Together, we managed to raise some $920,000 in 2024. That sum is equivalent to the cost of enabling 115 children to access clinical trials, ensuring innovative and targeted treatments specific to their cancers.

Without the help of our incredible teams that choose to fundraise, we would not be able to provide The Kids’ Cancer Project’s researchers with the resources they need to change lives. It’s why you should choose to fundraise with us in 2025!

How to fundraise

Fundraising can be just as creative as writing your book, here’s some tips to help maximise your fundraising goals!

Seek sponsorship from local businesses or rotary clubs

Many local businesses and rotary clubs are often keen to support students, and with the ability to provide a tax-deductible donation for kids with cancer, it’s the perfect scenario!

Send out fundraising links in newsletters and on school communication channels

Spreading the word to the entire school community will certainly help with those donations. Cancer affects the lives of so many, with lots of those people willing to give back.

Get your local library to spread the word

Libraries are hubs for community engagement and literacy advocacy, making them a natural fit to support Write a Book in a Day. Flyers, posters and even a showcase event at the library is a great way to fundraise.

Speak with local newspapers and community radio

Local media outlets are always on the lookout for positive and impactful community stories. Reach out to newspapers and radio stations to share details about the fundraiser and how it’s helping kids with cancer.

Survival starts with science. By opting to fundraise for The Kids’ Cancer Project as part of Write a Book in a Day 2025, you’re enabling science.

Please note, personal fundraising links for students are shared with parents and/or caregivers only, as it is illegal to solicit donations from those under 18 years.
