Story Starters- writing tips from the experts

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our Exhibition Booth at the AATE/ALEA Conference in Canberra this past week. What a fantastic learning experience and so wonderful to meet current (and hopefully future) Write a Book in a Day Team Coordinators, Participants and Readers!

A big thanks to Author and National Write a Book in a Day judge, Will Kostakis for starting our Story Starters Wall. Here is the collection, to prompt and challenge your students’ imaginations!

What’s your story?

  • It was finally time, I grabbed my jacket and fled…

  • The phone rang, but she missed the call…

  • The clock struck 6, another day was starting…

  • The beacon on the light house stopped working, or were the clouds so thick that you couldn’t see the light?

  • I grabbed my lanyard and a bottle of water…

  • The ground began to shake.

  • It was a cold, crisp night in Canberra…

  • As an aspiring author, Sarah appreciated the alliteration, but the teeth chattering, bone-stinging chill? Not so much.

  • As ice patches speckled on the ground below…

  • His eyes opened wide with panic, how long had he been sleeping?
