Instead of sitting in a class taking notes about passive voice, you will be doing it, living it , being the writer and editor and illustrator and book publisher in the pressure boiler of a 12-hour deadline.
Step 1: Register yourself or your school as a team leader here.
Step 2: Then Logon, register one or more teams and decide on a date to write your book between April 1 and August 31. You can change the date at any time as long as you give our computer three days notice of the changed date. (You have to have registered to do this step).
Step 3: Pay the entry fee of $50 with your credit card or send us a cheque or money order.
Step 4: Gather together a team of 5-10 friends, classmates, neighbours or work colleagues. You do not have to be a writer. Most of our teams are made up of people who have never written anything longer than a letter or a job resume. Login and enter the names of each member of each of your teams. It is good if you can include someone who can draw and also someone who knows how to use MSWord well and how to scan and insert pictures into your book. If you need to advertise for members you can click on 'Yes' when you register your team.
Step 5: Ask all your friends, classmates, relatives and work colleagues to sponsor you. You can collect sponsorship using our collection form, or sponsors can do so on this web site here using a credit card.
Step 6: Decide on a venue you can use for a whole day (8.00am to 8.00pm) - School library, home, office, telecentre, shire hall and ensure you have access to enough lap-tops, a scanner, stapler etc.
Step 7: Download the brochure which lists all sorts of hints on how to complete your book in 12 hours. Please read it - it contains the rules and judging criteria.
Step 8: Write your book and send it to us for the judges of the best book and to be given to your State children's hospital. On the day before you have said you will be writing, you will receive the characters, setting and issue on which your book must be based.
